With summer break on the horizon, finding activities for the kids can be a challenge. Help them learn about nature, get them interested in the outdoors, and where their food comes from with creative projects, like this Easy Milk Carton Bird Feeder. I’m delighted to share this sponsored post from Tree Top with you today. We had so much fun making the projects from KidsGardening.org and hope you will too!
My boys love being in the kitchen with me, and I love helping them learn about food and recipes. It’s extra fun when I get to teach them about where food comes from and how nature is all around us. They think it’s so cool see go to the dairy farm or watch birds hop along our backyard wall. When I found the Raising Good Apples campaign I couldn’t wait to start making all the projects with them. And first up was the Milk Carton Bird Feeder. They loved this project and so did I. Now every morning when we get up, the boys rush to the backyard to see if there are any birds on the feeder.
I swear if I’d let him, my youngest would only eat fruit…and PB & J sandwiches. Apples, pears, strawberries, cantaloupe, the list goes on and on. Even though he likes helping do crafts and projects, they can be a little tricky for him some times and he gets distracted or frustrated and wants to stop. Tree Top apple sauce pouches are a great way to let him hang out and feel involved while we continue working. He gets to observe (see: supervise) and have a snack, and his brother doesn’t worry that the applesauce might get all over the work area. (Hey, it happens.)
I kind of love that I can throw a couple pouches in my purse and avoid a melt down when we’re running around all day and boys get hungry. And of course Eddie had to measure how tall his apple sauce pouch was.
After we finished our bird feeder I hung it up on back patio. I explained to the boys that birds like to come eat the seeds, and how birds spread seeds to help plants grow. Otto immediately thought of Johnny Appleseed spreading seeds for apple trees, and the boys put 2+2 together. Birds help spread seeds, trees grow, apple, grow on trees, and then get made into applesauce. They both thought that was pretty cool.
If you’re not familiar with Tree Top, get in the know! They’re located in Washington’s apple country. Tree Top is a grower co-op, rooted in the communities where they work and live. Tree Top has been dedicated to delivering top-quality products for over 50 years. So they kind of know their stuff.
As part of Tree Top’s commitment to raising top quality fruit to create the best products (I’m just sayin’ Eddie devoured the strawberry applesauce pouches for a reason), they are donating $1 for every purchase of Tree Top Apple Sauce to KidsGardening.org to help fund community garden project and raise good apples across the country. Good apples…get it?! All the more reason to buy one of our favorite products. Heck! I remember begging my mom for those mini cans of apple juice when I was a kid.
Otto had to show off the bird feeder officially.
