Oh what a tangled web we weave!
Happy Halloween week! I’m so excited to be posting this treat for you especially if you are looking for a last minute dessert. I do have to confess though that I hate spiders! Just thinking about the real ones freak me out but these are too cute not to love, right? Or do you suffer from arachnophobia? Maybe these will cure us both 🙂
The recipe is very easy and would be a perfect recipe to make with kids. To keep is simple use box mixes and canned frosting – that’s what I did because I couldn’t wait to start decorating them. I also decided that they had to be a family – I mean they are nice spiders – they fell in love and had three children – one girl and two boys.
To decorate your spiders you will need black shoestring licorice for the legs, dark brown jimmies, small white candied pearls and cinnamon dots for the eyes. I used chocolate cupcakes, chocolate frosting and the jimmies for the guy spiders and vanilla cupcakes, vanilla frosting and the pearls for the gals. Oh and I even got my husband in the act with making bows!
I also made white chocolate spider webs. Melt white chocolate chips and place in a pastry bag with a small tip. I found a spider web outline and placed a piece of parchment paper over it and traced it with the chocolate. Place in the refrigerator until hardened…. to make mine a bit glitzy (cuz I like sparkles). I retraced them with some melted chocolate and sprinkled with white sugar.
Have I convinced you? Do you love spiders now – what’s not to love? Just look at his eyes!
