Hey everybody! I’m Tessa, and I blog over at tessacotton. I hope your 2014 has been off to a really great start. It’s been such a crazy fun holiday season for me, but I am more than ready to be back to normal life.
Today I’m sharing a mani that’s classic and perfect for winter, and hopefully a nice break from all the Christmas polishes. I know I was tired of red nails by the time Dec 25th came around!
Winter and New Years is my favorite time to wear glitter. I’m not usually one for a ton of glitz but there’s just something about the season that’s perfect for a little sparkle. Some glitter in your manicure is a great way to add a little sparkle to your look without going overboard. I love the contrast with the dark polish, and it looks so great in the sun.
I used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in “Navy Baby” and ULTA brand glitter polish is “Starry Night”. The sparkle polish has two different sizes of glitter.
It’s up to you on how to distribute the glitter in your polish, but my favorite look is a slight gradient. A few coats of glitter, each starting a little closer to the nail tip, creates a really pretty sparkle fade along the nail.
1. 1 coat navy polish (it might take 2 coats depending on the polish formula).
2. 3 coats glitter polish, each one beginning slightly closer to the nail tip.
3. 1 clear top coat (it really helps to even out the glitter)
And there you have it. Easy-peasy! If you give this manicure a try or create a similar look I’d be so happy to hear about it, hit me up on Instagram or Twitter. I’d love to see a pic!
