Peanut Butter Crack

I love getting amazing new recipes from friends.  They’re always family approved, and better yet, my friend though enough of the recipe (and me) to want to share it knowing full well there’s a 95% chance it’ll end up on the blog.  A few weeks ago our friend Phil came over after he and Mike finished drum practice.  He was talking about the trip he just took back to the mid-west, and about this stuff his sister made.

Steps to Make Peanut Butter Crack from

When he first started to tell me the recipe I assumed it was Saltine Cracker Toffee.  I feel like everyone and their mom knows about that stuff.  Heck, I found out about it when my mom made some a few Christmases ago.  It’s totally like crack.  SO GOOD!  But as Phil went on I found out this was not my mom’s Christmas Crack.  This was a harmony of two of my all time favorite flavor pairings – peanut butter & graham crackers!!  {You can see my profession of love in this Peanut Butter Graham Cracker Pie}  This Peanut Butter Crack is a-freaking-mazing!  It was all I could do not to go to town and eat it all in two days.  But a girl’s got to get into a wedding dress, so I took some to work.  You NEED to make this.

Serves: A LOT!
  • 1½ envelopes whole graham crackers {enough to fill a 9" x 13" baking sheet}
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 package Reese's peanut butter chips
  • ½ cup chopped pecans {fine chopped, but not dust}
  1. Line a 9" x 13" baking sheet with foil. place graham crackers in a single layer over the foil. You may need to break the graham crackers to fill in the smaller spaces. Fit them in as best you can, there may be some open spaces.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add brown sugar and cook until just bubbling and sugar has dissolved.
  3. Pour sugar mixture evenly over graham crackers. Use the back of a spoon to spread the sugar mixture so it's evenly distributed. Immediately sprinkle top with peanut butter chips.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place baking sheet in oven while it preheats. Check on the candy every 2 to 3 minutes until peanut butter chips look a little melted. Carefully remove baking sheet from oven.
  5. Use an offset spatula or back of a spoon to spread the melted peanut butter chips evenly over the graham crackers. {The peanut butter chips don't melt on their own the same way chocolate chips do. They need the extra heat boost.} Sprinkle the candy with pecan pieces. Let tray cool until you are able to handle it with your bare hands. Transfer candy to fridge and chill for at least 1 hour to overnight.
  6. Break candy into pieces. Try not to eat it all yourself. ;)
