Hey y’all! Tessa from tessacotton here. Can you believe that summer is almost over? I’m going to miss these blue skies and swimming pool days for sure. Today I’m sharing with you a tutorial for a manicure that’s an easy DIY using supplies you already have on hand.
First, gather your supplies. You’ll need a square of aluminum foil, a toothpick or two, and a handful of your favorite polishes in a similar color scheme. For this mani I used three of my favorite shades of blue from Essie. Begin with two thin base coats of your first color (I used Essie Lapiz of Luxury”).
There are a lot of polish dotting techniques out there, but I’ve yet to find one that works better than a simple toothpick. Drip a little bit of your second polish (I used Essie “Butler Please”) onto a square of tinfoil. It only takes a little blog of polish, so don’t pour too much! You can always add more polish later. Waste not, want not!
Dip the toothpick into the polish and then gently dot it onto the nail. It works best if you keep the toothpick straight up and down. On each finger, make a line of dots straight down the center of the nail, vertically.
Repeat with the third color (I used Essie “Navigate Her”) along side the initial row of dots. Finally, use the first polish color for the last row of dots, along the edge of the nail. And there you have it!
I’d absolutely love to see it if you recreate this manicure or use this dotting technique! Hit me up on Instagram or Twitter and let me know if you give it a try.
