I love fall. I always think I don’t, because I love summer so much, and I live in Pennsylvania, so fall means that winter is just around the corner. And winter is not my friend. But then fall rolls around, and football season starts, and there are pumpkins, and pretty colors, and I get to bust out my boots and cute sweaters, and then I’m like, “Wait… I DO like fall!”
So today I’m going to show you how to do a super-cute, insanely easy little fall project.
A sweet little framed washi tape pumpkin.
In case you don’t know, washi tape is thin, decorative Japanese paper tape. Think masking tape, but thinner. There is no end to the projects that you can do with washi tape — from using it on cards to making jewelry to covering an entire wall. {To see tons of washi tape projects, check out my Washi Tape Projects Pinterest board!}
This might be the easiest project ever. It literally takes 5 minutes, but it’s ridiculously adorable, and will look so fab on my fall mantel. {You know, when I actually getting around to taking my summer mantel down and putting up a fall mantel. Don’t judge me.}
Anyways. All you need is a frame, some card stock and some washi tape.
To begin, first decide how big you want your finished pumpkin. Sketch out an outline of a pumpkin and a stem on a piece of card stock. {If you’re not comfortable doing this by hand, you can do a Google search for “pumpkin clip art” or trace a cookie cutter.} Don’t worry too much what it looks like, though, because it’s going to get covered up by the tape anyways. Right now, you just want an idea of size.
Cover up your entire outline with washi tape. I used two different orange designs for the pumpkin, and green for the stem.
Cut out your pumpkin and the stem. {If you can’t still see your outline through the tape, re-draw it lightly on top of the tape, or just cut it out freehand.} Tape the stem on the back of the pumpkin.
Cut a second piece of cardstock to fit your frame, and attach your pumpkin with double-sided tape or glue. Pop it back into your frame, and you’re done!
There you have it! Ridiculously cute fall decor in just minutes!
