Hi kids! Welcome back to the blogging income series. Okay, it’s more of an accountability thing for me so I can push myself to reach my money goals while blogging, but we all learn from each other, right?!?
So the January/February income swing is more how my blogging money typically goes. I don’t make enough on Google AdSense yet to get paid every month, in fact that money is down. Boo. And I did a lot of sponsored posts in February that won’t pay out til March. So this month I’m just kind of in stasis. THIS is one of the obstacles I want to overcome for my blog income.
Let’s look at the hard numbers, shall we?
Here’s my traffic over the last month. On February 15th I made the move over to WordPress. I didn’t really post at all that week because I was busy prepping the new site and trying to get my head on straight. Then I spent a couple days re-categorizing posts and making the page menus. It was a lot of work, but I’m very happy with the site. I’m hoping to get a WordPress move post put together by the end of the month.
I had also stopped sharing at link parties for almost a month. You can see my traffic kind of dwindled off during the beginning of the month. I’m totally attributing this to my lack of link party involvement. However, I did have my first Secret Recipe Club post this month and that got some good traffic. I’m thinking this will be a good resource for new traffic. This past week I started linking up at parties again and I can already see a difference. Those last five little dots on the line are this past week. Yeah.
Overall, my traffic is down, but I’m considering this a rebuilding period. I’m on the new site now, I have all my new goals, and I signed up for Food Blogger Pro in the hopes of really upping my photography game. There are all kinds of in depth tools and resources on the site and I’m hoping to learn a lot. It’s $25/month or $250/year. I’ll be reporting back on how I’m liking the site and how it’s helping next month if you’re thinking about joining.
I did notice one major thing since moving to WP. My bounce rate is way higher. I used to run around 33% and now I’m in the mid 50′s. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that my home page has smaller pictures and post excerpts as opposed to full posts. I like the excerpt lay out a lot better, and I’m working on getting some plug-ins to highlight other posts. We’ll see what happens this month.
Referral sources. I always like to take a look at this list and see what’s working best for me, and where by best time investment is. Two of my top 10 referrals are me funny enough. With the WP rerouting, I’m not really surprised. Pinterest is still major, and I’m happy to see Facebook making the list since Facebook and Pinterest are where I invest the most time currently. I’m working on upping my Google+ game. Being a contributor for Something Swanky is still generating some good traffic (Thanks Ashton!!), and being in the SRC has their referral hitting the list. Woo!!
I’m contributing for 3 other blogs now (yaaaaaay!), and I’m hoping my work there will start generating some more traffic WLOW way. You can see who i’m working with on my Press & Media page. I made one. Fun! I will say this, if there is ever a chance to work with another blogger and your worried you won’t get picked. Stick your neck out there and take a chance. The worst they can say is no. The best is YES. You’ll go running around your house laughing and smiling like a little school girl. Not that I do that. Stop judging me!
Pinch of Yum Tasty Food Photography eBook Affiliate sales: $19.00
That’s what I got paid on this month. My eBook sales from January, and I’m okay with that. I have more money than I planned on coming this month, which is fun. I just want to make everyone month pay out. That’s my current short term goal. Once that happens we’ll go from there.
