Sgroppino Italian Cocktails are made for summer. Crazy easy to whip up and so light and fresh they’ll be making a regular appearance on your bar!
You guys. I have found THE best summer cocktail. Serve it in a coupe glass and feel super fancy, because are 5 minutes from cocktail heaven!
This Sgroppino recipe is everything you want in a cocktail on a hot day. It’s bubbly, refreshing, boozy, and bursting with tart lemon flavor. YUM!!
While Italian cocktails for summer might not be your first thought when you need something to sip, today I’m going to show you the light.
It all starts with Open Nature® sorbets. These tubs of deliciousness are so freaking good you guys. I buy myself a couple when I shop at Albertsons and bust one out when the 100+ degree heat gets to me.
The lemon sorbet is tart with a hint of sweet and the strawberry? That stuff is dangerous! I go through more tubs than I’d like to admit, but with Eddie helping me I don’t feel so bad.
Open Nature is a high-quality frozen dessert my whole family loves. It’s all about grabbing the right flavor for each person. The usual spread is strawberry, peach, mango, and raspberry. Open Nature non-dairy dessert that’s a great alternative to traditional ice cream. Their sorbet, almond milk, cashew milk, oat milk, and coconut milk options are crazy good. There are no artificial colors or flavors here friends! Just a clean ingredient deck you’ll feel good about serving your family and friends.
I get our sorbet at Albertsons or Safeway, but it’s also available exclusively at Albertsons Companies family of stores: ACME, Jewel-Osco, Randalls, Shaw’s, Star Market, Tom Thumb, and Vons in-store, with Grocery Delivery and DriveUp & Go™, or online.
Can I just say how fun “Tom Thumb” is for a store name? I kind of wish we had them in Arizona.
How to pronounce sgroppino
First things first. Let’s talk about how the heck you say the name of this Sgroppino drink.
Say it with me… “skuroh-pee-no”

Or to make it simple, call this your new favorite Italian lemon sorbet cocktail!
What does Sgroppino mean in Italian?
Sgroppino translates “to untie” as in to untie your stomach after a meal. This is usually served as an after-dinner cocktail in Italy.
No one will judge you if you bust them out poolside or for brunch. Been there, done that.
Sgroppino Ingredients
There are just three ingredients to this cocktail! So easy. You can gussy it up a little with some chopped mint on top too, but that’s totally up to you
- Chilled prosecco
- Chilled vodka – use a good middle shelf vodka
- Lemon sorbet – I use Open Nature sorbets because they taste so darn fresh and pair beautifully with the prosecco.
If you want to fiddle with things, and I always do, you can swap out sorbet flavors too. No one ever said you HAD to make a Sgroppino al Limone.
I’ve made this Italian cocktail with strawberry sorbet (YUM!) and even made a raspberry Sgroppino.
Want to get really crazy? Use strawberry AND lemon sorbet. It’s like a boozy, fizzy strawberry lemonade you don’t put down!
How to Make Sgroppino
- Grab a champagne flute or your favorite red wine glass. I like the wine glass so there’s a little wiggle room space-wise.
- Next, add your chilled champagne and vodka to the glass.
- After that, gently add a good-sized scoop of sorbet to the glass.
- If you want to get fancy, sprinkle a little chopped mint on top and you’re in business!
If you’re making these Sgroppino cocktails for a crowd there are a couple of ways you can serve them up.
Option 1 – Add an entire bottle of prosecco and 3/4 cup vodka to a punch bowl. (You can double this depending on the size of your bowl.) Add a bunch of scoops of Open Nature Sorbet and let them float in the punch. Make it pretty with some lemon slices and whole mint leaves floating in there too.
Option 2 – Fill a 1-gallon beverage dispenser with 3 1/2 (750mL) bottles of prosecco along with 3 cups and 5 ounces of vodka. Add 2 1/4 cups Open Nature Sorbet and let it melt into the liquids. Give everything a stir before serving.
If you’re going with option #2, skip the mint. It’ll just clog up the pour spout. You can always leave some mint to the side of the beverage dispenser for people to add to their cups after pouring.
What is the most popular drink in Italy?
The most popular drink in an Aperol Spritz. It’s probably the most famous and loved Italian cocktails.
It’s a simple cocktail of prosecco, Aperol, and soda water with an orange wheel for garnish.
What do Italians drink for alcohol?
The most popular choices are wine (duh), amaro, amaretto, Campari, limoncello, and vermouth.
This cocktail is great with some limoncello in place of vodka too. You know, in case you run out of vodka by some chance.
